you're asleep. crashed out on the floor.
i creep, slowly, out of the room.
walk accross the landing
into a dirty white room.
sitting on the floor, by the bath.
crossed legs on a cold floor, crying into cupped hands,
I hear you mumble, grumble. Awake.
you start to shout my name.
Angry now and something smashes, something crashes
Broken
Destroyed.
You stumble heavily along the landing.
soon you'll find me, throw me, break me.
i stand up steadily, and move to the door.
have to do it fast. right.
slowly and you'll hear,
you'll come, you'll run.
hands first, i throw myself to slam the door,
You hear. you run. i hear you run.
Rattle the lock until it slides across
and clicks into place and i sigh with relief
and you pound on the door
to the beating of my heart in my throat
i lean, slide, down. floor
cover my ears with hands and curl up.
muffled shouting. beating, pounding.
on the other side of the door.
