filling this void inside of me
you touch my soul and set me free
your arms around me in an embrace
you take me away from this terrible place
hold me close, squeeze me tight
tell me things will be alright
hand in hand we will not go down
the name of love is a beautiful sound
fixing my fragile and broken heart
piece back together my world thats apart
you slide your hand through my hair
i know that you will alwalys be there
hold me close, squeeze me tight
tell me things will be alright
hand in hand we stand up to sing
the face of love is a beautiful thing
i close my eyes and trust you to lead
you promise to fulfill my every need
your fingers clapse over my cold hand
telling me that you understand
hold me close, squeeze me tight
promise things will be alright
hand in hand i know its enough
the hand of love has a caressing touch
please hold me close and never let go
we wont go fast, lets take it slow
i take your hand and say i love you
love, it will save me, please say me too

Okay, I don't know if average is right to say (not looking to do any flaming, just bear with me). First, I'm not a critic. Of poetry at any rate. Ask me about antivirus software and you can't shut me up. I just know what i like. And how I like poetry is based on the following factors:
1) Rhythm, you know how it rhymes and flows.
2) Word selection (kinda speaks for itself)
3) Content and subject matter
4) Emotional response.
Okay, having said all that, how does this stack up with Jennie's earlier work? The rhythym is strong, as is pretty much everything else's she done. The words don't "stick in my mouth" when I read them. They flow Word selection is good; we don't need the dark metaphorical stuff that jen has earned a rep for writing. So maybe it's not as colorful as her earlier writes, which gets into content and subject matter. It's a love poem. If your used to being shocked and terrified by Jen's stuff, then this poem would be a let down. It is soft, quiet, sweet. I can just see little pink hearts ooozing out of it (ooozing in a good way). The content is fine, just not what one has been accustomed to. Which leads to emotional response, which is what you feel. Again, like previously stated, the sharp, focused graphic content of her earlier stuff is so different from warm and fuzzy. Yes, it is a different feeling altogether. But let's take this newest poem in context of all of her writing. This really isn't a single poem, but the lastest in what's come beforehand. And before some say that the past should not matter, well, I disagree. A long time ago, when watching the Star Wars movies, at one big moment Vader tells Luke that he is his father. It is precisely a big moment because of everything that led to that moment, primarily in episode 4. Without that history, the moment loses meaning. With that history, it's like.... wow, man! Anyway, the same is true for Jennie's latest. I have read so much of her stuff and it is heart wrenching. I want this gal to be happy, and if she is finally happy, OMG, you can talk about emotional responses! This poem was a pleasure to read, it did flow well, and I am so happy for you. 6 stars! (but they'll only let me vote 5). |

This was a very good write and I’m so happy to see you write a powerful love filled piece like this and it is much enjoyed. As for sinned putting Average who is he to say that. Like I always say poetry is your thoughts and emotions straight from your heart poured out on this page and how is he to say that is Average. This is powerful and a love like this is awesome and I hope its true and all works out for you. My prayers and thoughts will be with you. I really like the last stanza of this write and take your own advice and take it slow. Sometimes when were hurt we can move to fast in a new relationship to cover up our pain. Keep writing these love filled works they are as much enjoyed as your other writes. Take care my friend….Steve |
