Did You Say Something ?

~

Think you that you know me ?
Somehow by my words you see
The man I am inside, or more
The man you want me to be ?

And who are you to judge me
For the things I say or do ?
Your opinions seem to speak
Less of me and more of you

Do you think that I’ll be daunted
By some rubbish that you’ve taunted
Or the whispers I can hear upon the wind ?

If a change is what you’re after
I beseech you then with laughter
Come I say, pray let the games begin

I know my voice doth carry
And I know that it’s been heard
But you didn’t pay attention
Didn’t see behind the words

You speak in pretty riddle
And you prattle on in tongues
But will you be remembered
When your time on earth is done

Do you think that I’ll be broken
By the hurtful words you’ve spoken ?
You see now the beauty of my plan

For it is I they will recall
Who offended one and all
Not the worthless rantings of a lesser man

So call me what you will
Laugh and joke now, get your fill
Tomorrow when you’re gone, you see
I will be here … still

~

( Avenger style affirmation )

My oh my. Well, I am new here, but I will certainly try not to make you mad at me. Send me the rules and I will see if I can abide. I am basically a peaceful squaw.

Powerful write,
Dove

Naz,

Well this is an adament affirmation, I've experienced a softer variation. Yet behind your words there lurks, a truth I don't always get. None of us are determined by anothers view, so your, and my, autonamy are self assured. Although it's nice to not be misunderstood.

Very thought provoking, and clever my friend

Will

YES!!!!!! OMG, love it! Ah, but of course! The Avenger returns, better than ever, with the same 'take me as I am' attitude!! Harsh beatings of bitterness, cold stabs of seething hatred, a growing fury feeding from those pathetic mortals of insecurity... Intense, very very intense, my friend. I stepped into a room of the deepest and coldest of blacks, the vibrant hues of crimson and wine... I felt an icy draft caress my spine, as I read the jagged writings on the wall:

"So call me what you will
Laugh and joke now, get your fill
Tomorrow when you’re gone, you see
I will be here … still ..."

Chilling, defiant, and ruthless. OUTSTANDING piece, cheri. I tip my hat to you. Flawless, once again. All my love. Forever,

Your fervent fan and dear friend,

Stephy! *still breathless!*

Naz,
This was wonderful! I loved it! You tell 'em Nazzy! Let's see, I loved the flow and the ryhmes. I loved the way you used the words...the subject was terrific! This was just a "na-na, na-na, na-na" complete with thumb on tip of nose and fingers waving happily while sticking out your tongue!
Ok, I've made it obvious what I gleened from this prose! Good job buddy!

Carol (who has an urge to stick out her tongue!)

Whats that music that plays when something huge and ominous crests over the horizon??....
I hear it my head, its blunt, powerful and unstoppable!

Perfectly, entirely unrelenting this is.... as poetry should be, I think (oh - I most absolutely do think so!). And... thought provoking in many ways --- perhaps most significantly in the sense that it leaves me thinking "Damn... I need to stop editing myself so."

This made me think of a fistful of other poems that have struck me along the way. The first that came to mind was Maya Angelou... perhaps because of this:

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
you may kill me with your hatefulness,
but still, like air, I'll rise.

Indeed.

Applauding those that do not hesitate to put it on the page ~ yourself included,
~Snemmy~

Interesting write. One of your voices, I presume. Right now it almost reminds me of someone else. Good write, Naz!
