Cutters

Contributed by Jaycee on Monday, 9th May 2005 @ 12:33:07 AM in AEST
Topic: Grief

The allure of the steel
honed to a fine edge
it will slice open flesh
its promise and pledge

Its uses are many
it cuts open wide
or surgical precision
under a doc's hand to guide

But there are uses more
grim and darker, debase
a spilling of blood
that has no good place

I mean self-mutilation
to cut one's own skin
it's brushed under the rug
even by one's own kin

We must soften our hearts
not harden them today
and empathize we must
so we can find a way

To lead them away
from the allure of the blade
this is the most valued
of pledges I've made

Three young women I know
I've recently learned
cut with the edge
their skin they have burned

My wrath is so riled
but no target in sight
and what tortures them
I want to fight

These three they are victims
of horrid abuse I have heard
Want to find their tormentors
and remove from this world

People don't understand
that they don't cut for fun
they are beaten or worse
they just have no one

I can't stop the world
I'm not much, only me
But please hear me now
I'm here for you three

A finely done write. Very good and it sounds like you are a good friend to these individuals. It's great to have friends like that; that will stand by you. Take care.

Very good poem for such a tough subject....Some very close family members and a couple friends of mine do this terrible mutilation to their bodies. It's so very sad---I just want to hug them and never let go...Good write. Scorp.

this was a very thoughtful and emotianly strong poem, it made me wish I had a friend like you to tell me these things. It is someting that we do in respons to pain, and yes its because we beleive that we have no one. you have captured the esscanse of this very well I do hope that your friends know thatyou care for them and will pray that they get over this ( I wouldn't wish this addiction on my enemies). Be well.

What a inspirational and inspiring poem. I know what you're going through one of my close friends started cutting herself. She was caught just the other day for smoking behind the school. She's headed in a cycle that no one can bring her out of. I hope it gets better for those three people in your life. Great Write.
