Suicide

They were personal,
his flourishes,
to the last.
As he dramatizied his diary
the grit was palpable;
and you felt like
the worn eye
of the tattered rabbit
he never slept without.
Raising his glass to the crowd,
'Spent it all', he said.
Then he vanished
into our eyes.
