Mother,
Where have the heavens led me
To believe that the things you’ve taught
Me weren’t of importance.
The times I’ve shown you that I should ignore your advice,
Have proven myself wrong,
As I find myself speaking
In your voice
When they try to keep my thoughts
In a cage at the back of my mind.
From a dear friend as you,
The thoughts flowed freely
As I sat and watched with disbelief
But as times change,
You never fail to do me good.
Mother,
Those are the things that keep me
From death.
Those were the things
That held me back from
Throwing rocks at a hornet’s nest.
For a friend as you have given me
The jewels to free speech
And the courage to unleash
My creativity and let it
Spill out in music, and gush out in words
Mother,
Those were the days,
That led me to a point where
I can either choose to scale the mountain.
Or jump from it.
They kept me afloat in this ocean of
Evils, that I still managed to dive into,
But never get swallowed,
As a friend, you brought me joy,
Laughter, and just any pleasant memory
That could happen to come across the
Mind…like a lock of hair in the wind.
Mother,
My mind is still wandering
On the pathway to
Adulthood…
You comfort me
So that sadness won’t befall me.
Mostly to keep a tear
From trickling down my cheek
And glittering as it drips off
My chin.
Like a friend, your ears perk up
When I need to consult you
For things that ail me.
Like the burning in my heart
As I learn the true nature of man.
Mother,
I’ve tried to ignore your advice
And disregard your attempts to show
Affection, by making a fool of me.
But just to let you see into
My thoughts,
I want you to understand,
Please don’t give up on me.
I am different than I used to be.
I no longer weave
The threads of false emotion
To keep my self clothed;
Protected from those
Who will try to make me
Change, when they won’t even
Remember what I was wearing.
You’re the friend, letting me know
That my smile is worth ev’ry
Golden sunray casting its pillar
Of light
Over the dog, sleeping in the grass.
Mother,
Though you’ve been my source
Of frustration several times,
You’ve also been
The heart of my laughter.
You were the tree that bore the leaf.;
Still, I cling to the branch
That houses me,
But eventually, I will let go,
And land in a plot, that I, too,
May become a tree,
With the most beautiful green leaves.
As a friend,
You keep me amused
As you slowly attempt
To let me walk on my own.
But my heart will never let go.
My mind, a palace, to treasure
The memories that were created
As the walls of stone were,
And still are, being built.
That, being true, is what a mother’s
Love calls for.
Mother,
You may leave me, but I’ll never leave
You.
We may not agree
Over what flavour of Ice Cream is the
Best,
But we can agree that
Ellen Degeneres is a good influence
On the young people of today,
We may not agree that the young
Paul McCartney was cuter than the
Young Keith Richards,
But we can agree that
The Beatles are better than
The Backstreet Boys.
Like a friend,
We laugh, we cry,
We fight, we sigh,
We share the silent walks
Amongst daffodils and
Over rolling hills.
Letting the dense aroma of honeysuckle
Tie the relationship of mother
And daughter tighter.
Mother,
I’d like to be able to understand
You, and you, me.
But it’s a blatant fact of nature
That the world of adult and teenager
Are light years apart.
At least we live
In the same
Jungle.
‘Tis not the city
of metros and high-rise buildings.
No skyscrapers or things like
That, but,
Hills, and houses
Squirrels and birds.
As a friend, you keep me
Entertained with a
Handful of jokes and
Good times
Spent harmonizing
To Beatles songs
In the car.
Weird as life may be,
We are happy,
You and me.
Dad, too, all we three.
That’s my thanks, for giving life to me.
Mother,
Though the things you tell me
I don’t always understand.
I guess it will
All make sense
To me, when I
Am full grown
You still walk with me.
You were there when I learned to crawl.
When I learned to walk.
When I learned to talk.
You were there when I learned to read.
When I learned to draw.
When I learned write.
You were there when I learned to ride a bike
When I learned to roller blade.
And now, as I learn to drive.
For a friend, like you have
Given me strength during
Certain times.
You’ve been there
Even when I DON’T mess up.
You just share my joy like a friend should.
Thank you, Mom,
For being mom.
Because without you,
I may start to go astray.
I Love You, Mom.
Love,
Holly, (Cupid)
