I Wrote This One for You

I Wrote This One For You
May 5, 2005

This is true,
Yet seems so wrong.
Maybe not,
So I'll go along.
There was a time,
Not so long ago,
When you were there-
Everyday,
Then suddenly gone,
In every way.
You were a fog-like dream,
So great that when you wake,
It's hard to tell if it was true,
Hard to tell if it really was you.
Years of struggling, pain, then-
Surrender to being helpless.
My surrender? Or yours?
Sheltered in a shattered mind,
Separated from yourself, and mine.
All alone, you were alive,
But so gone it makes me cry.
Healing, as the nature of it does,
Comes and helps and moves us on.
Reminders still of you out there,
Sitting somewhere with an empty stare,
But most often, to be honest,
You were already gone for me.
You became my past tense thoughts...
Marvin was, he used to, he did...
Then,
Years later I get the call,
And you're officially gone.
I feel a small sadness inside,
But, the majority of my grief is spent,
Was spent,
When you left me the first time.
I wrote this one for you,
And made it completely true.
I loved and lost you,
Died a little inside.
Now you are really gone,
And I haven't really cried.
