Do People Really Die?

Contributed by Zeldianus on Wednesday, 4th May 2005 @ 08:37:09 PM in AEST
Topic: Grief

I am seen by none.
I am nothing.
My life is snuffed out
And I am forgotten.
There once was a time when my life held substance
And I was happy and joyful.
But no more now that I am six feet under.
It’s all gone to ashes.

A lonely wanderer passes by
Seeing my headstone
And for just an instant I have substance
And my tale is remembered.
He stops for a while to listen
And is intrigued for the time.
But as he walks away,
He forgets about me and I fade away.

I want so to be loved.
I want to be remembered.
I know that my time is up
And I can do nothing now that I am gone.
I can only hope that at least one person
Will remember me.
And the times we had together.
Especially the love I gave them.

I realize that throughout all of time people have died.
Or have they?
Has anyone seen these people die?
How do we know they were ever in existence?
Are we to dig up their grave to see their remains?
Perhaps I never existed.
I cannot remember anything of my life.
I am only a fabrication of the imagination…

This is a saddening write but I can relate to how you feel. I think you expressed your emotions well, and I like the ending...
