Charred flesh, scratch and sniff,
Incense candles of a burning witch,
Burn the bridges, where we’ll get,
Cross the river of our discontent,
Oh the scent of the innocent…
The scent of the innocent,
Descent of the innocent,
Where it all went…
Ashes, ashes, all that’s left,
Nothing I can do about that,
Revenge of ropes, hold them back,
All that’s left, there soul intact,
Oh the scent of the innocent…
The scent of the innocent,
Descent of the innocent,
Where it all went…
Dreams of dead, shiny things,
Haunts those, who ignored the screams,
I will never know, the pain it brings,
But there’s a clue in my head, the voices ring…
Oh the scent of the innocent…
The scent of the innocent,
Descent of the innocent,
Where it all went…
I hear the screams, dreams, of dead shiny things,
The dead shiny things they dream, they scream…

Firstly, all praise, in regards to your title.
In my opinion, your approach feels satirically jovial…much like the effects of ‘black humour’.
“Charred flesh, scratch and sniff”
An interesting metaphor…
Cross the river of our discontent
Yet I feel that this line
“Burn the bridges, where we’ll get”
Would have made more sense if it ended with “we met” instead of “we’ll get”.
Yet if it makes sense to you, or if it has particular significance then take no heed of what I suggest!
This repeated stanza gives much emphasis, thus manifesting effect and attitude, conveyed extraordinarily well!
“Oh the scent of the innocent…
The scent of the innocent,
Descent of the innocent,
Where it all went…”
It consists, significantly, to (mentioned) satire.
The play on words and sounds – “innocent, scent, descent and incense”.
“Revenge of ropes, hold them back,
All that’s left, there soul intact”
-is this in reference to the hangings performed within the era of “witch-hunt” –as such?
I appreciate this line, regardless of its meaning, as it is simply radiating.
Obscure and cold.
I loved it.
