Restless

Contributed by FleurdeSang on Sunday, 1st May 2005 @ 07:44:40 PM in AEST
Topic: insomniac

2:45 a.m.,

The clock mocks me with those neon numbers,
Reminders of this horrid insomnia...
I yearn for just a second of slumber,
My eyes are weary,
Yet, my mind is a restless city,
Endless thread of thoughts linked to nothing,
Voices clawing at my sanity,
I must write…

My fingers tremble with anticipation,
To feel the comforting coolness of my pen,
To weave tales of Nostalgia and Beauty,
Songs of You…

No sound,
But the rhythmic beat of my heart,
The agitating Tick-Tock of that 12 numbered face,
The soothing melody of crickets and cool breezes,
The incessant clicking of my blinking eyes…

Dreams are left to be dreamt another night,
As Day grows ever near…

I write in total darkness,
Hidden beneath a blanket of shadows,
Tormented by the Voices that wish to be heard,
Their tales waiting to be told…

My dusty bed yawns, rolls over, and falls asleep,
It will have no occupant tonight…
The Sandman,
With a, “Whenever you’re ready,”
Sits beside me,
And waits…

3:05 a.m.,

The Voices have grown quiet,
If only for a moment,
And I recline on an old blue couch,
Groaning as I lay, realizing I will sleep upon it once more…

Hoping for flights of fancy and blissful slumber,
I close these somnolent eyes,
And listen,
For Sleep’s sweet lullaby…

(Again) Fabulous, Stephy! Each trip to your page draws me further into your work.

I, too, saw 2:45 and 3:05 a.m. roll by last night. I, though... welcome the opportunity to remain wakeful through the wee hours. I do most of my writing when nearly everyone I know is sleeping (lol - I've never used the "Insomniac Poetry" category... I think if I did, I'd put everything there!).

I look at it this way... if I'm awake in the middle of the night it means I'm alert, alive, thinking... inspired... and that doesn't seem so terrible, you know?

It would seem, Stephy... very much the same for you. Just look what you did here! : )

*applauding*

Hmm I had trouble getting to sleep last night,
but I just laid there and wasn't as productive
as you. Anyway I thought this poem was
beautiful so descriptive and I can really relate
to the first stanza. I'm not sure what
"somnolent" means though. Hopefully I'll talk
to you again soon.

3:24 AM

The Gods of Karaoke have released me of the mornings duties, yet their melodies remain and sleep mocks behind a veiled faced. Darkness envelopes the world and the light withi my mind refuses to be extinguished. I too understand Stephy and share a few moments with the Sandman beside my shoulder ... waiting ... ( hasn't he got some else he can bother ? Mothy is still awake !!!! )
