WINDMILL BY MOONLIGHT
Do windmills die quietly?
Alone, abandoned, nakedly.
Gone are the cattle herds
White faced Herefords
Corral fences broken, weathered,
Heavy snow's blizzard.......
Silenced whir, whirl 'round.
Winds n'er found........
Stand alone, moon's shadow,
Sad skeleton fellow.......
Talks to moon of doom,
Days gone,... gloom.
Chaps, spurs, bridle
Cowboy, hustle bustle......
Water bearer, life giver,
Important, none better!
Horses let out to pasture,
Windmills let out to wither
Windmills n'er whimper
Windmills n'er cry.
Windmills by moonlight
Quietly die.

"My heart was heavy as I
created this poem. Gone are the
days of long cattle drives, and
tough cowboys of the West that I once
knew. Lonely windmills stand idle,
from lack of use."

tears'

Come to the farming and ranching areas of Texas. We still have it all. Walked into the local GNC store and there was a real cowboy with spurs buying his B-complex. My how the West has changed. Love this write, but it is all still around. I love windmills too. Old windmills just rot and rust away and return to the earth just like we do.

Yes Connie - this poem really brings tears to the eyes.
A sad bitterly sad contemplation of things vanished from our sight, but that still exercise their power over our inner being and can never be banned from there.
So much beauty, depth and sadness, but the very fact that is stirring in your poetry means that it is not lost. but alive.
A true gem of a composition Connie!
Thanks for sharing it.
Be blessed

Ahh I love this, the feel of a meloncholy heart that silently watches as the favourite reminders of a beautiful past is ripped off the pages of existance by the brutal commiseration of time and change. I too am a fond admirer of old history and I watch in quiet horror as the unstoppable march of times sweep away the symbols of the past that I hold so dear...though I am a bit of an eccentric for I am not senior enough to have experienced the near past. But in my own way I feel your despondency in the lost of those times. The subject is a heavy and sad one but the feeling you captures here is a familiar one and I at least can relate to it, nostalgia is a face I know all too well . As always a write that does speaks of quality and experience. Welcome back indeed dear Lovingcritters. |

I can feel the sadness and meloncoly come off of this piece. I can sense the longing for things gone by, a lovely , sad emotive piece ConSue.
Remember not to look at just what is lost, but at all that you have...strength and happiness to you my friend! |
