LUC. What were the fault were mine to go and say
'Good people, gentles care you hither stay?'
What were the fault were mine to go outside
Then in ecstasy open my arms wide
And tell the world wherever I was hid.
Or as goodnight a prayer I would them bid.
What were the fault were mine to be so kind
The spirit of the bootless type of mind,
Ideas of no sort would be beteeming
A wounded bird of prey to be then seeming.
What were the fault were mine to be so dumb
To speak no more or less mine lips be numb,
To utter no secret to anyone
(An thou wert to go speak to everyone.)
Art thou not a buxom blunt of mine own?
A nuance of some larger picture blown?
Cannot thou give an aim of my affection?
May be for the immaculate confection?
The gayest festivity of our time
With a cake and a little hint of lime.
O, how happy I will ever be alive
But only if I had the means to survive.
I never understood the world one bit
Can we not take chance what to make of it?
(Only if our hearts be intertwinèd.)
In hopes that all my dreams will come to last
And should I choose, what day start I to fast?
(Unless, of course, I choose to never show.)
But hearken, I hear footsteps, I now go.
