By The Phone

Do you want to hear a secret?
Remember when we met?
On the phone?
Well, the truth is, I loved talking to you.
After our first conversation, I knew that you were someone,
Who was easy to talk to.
Just for the heck of it,
I kept the phone by my side.
Just in case you called.
I liked the idea, that someone was actually listening to me,
When Matt wouldn’t.
So every day after that,
When I got home from school,
I’d watch TV and sit by the phone, waiting to see
If you had anything to say.
I even told Amanda how much I loved talking to you.
With every day,
And every conversation,
I forgot about him more and more,
And used my memory on you.

To this day, Baby,
When I get home,
I go straight to the phone to see if you called.
And if you didn’t,
Then I wait by that phone,
Hoping you’ll let me hear your beautiful voice.
I’ve probably waited by that phone thousands of times by now.
And thousands are yet to come.
For even if you leave me, in the future,
I’ll still come home after work,
And sit by the phone, Waiting for you to call.

And when God takes you,
That’s still where I know I’ll be;
Sitting by the phone,
Hoping that he’ll let you call me from heaven.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
