Battle Within

Confusion is my constant companion
The unknown my worst fear
I wish that I could find a way
To make all the thoughts disappear

But so far I haven’t been successful
The thoughts never seem to cease
I’m fighting a losing battle
With a nonexistent beast

I always thought that I’d be
Someone others could look up to
But then I wound up doing things
I never thought I’d do

Now I’m even more lost
Than I’ve ever been before
It’s like someone locked me in a room
To search for an imaginary door

Although I know I shouldn’t
I usually feel completely alone
Wondering if I’ll ever return
To the life I used to own
