Switchblade
by

Ghost Moth

-~-

The moon's yellow fingernail whistles a crippled tune
as the late Summer's steamy hot breath
chases tin cans down the alley like drunken rats

He sits on a black rooftop perched like a raven
his eyes are two green slivers glowing in the dark,
his tail a slow intimidating whip,
lashing lazily

Preened cottonballs strut stupidly up the alley,
rubbing their pink noses and snowy cheeks
against rusted chrome fenders,
and circling the garbage cans like fat snakes

Leaping lightning strikes them from the rooftops,
dagger claws ripping thru their shampooed coats,
and yellow teeth dragging them to the oil-stained
gravelly ground

They run home first chance they're lucky enough to steal
from the wicked black cat
who always disappears at dawn
real vampire like...

They say he once killed a grown man,
and all the neighborhood brats tell a story
of how he once beat broken glass
into a mean kid's bloodied mouth
with a busted old amber beer bottle

He has no name,
he has no owner--
he's too wild

But one night
I heard the wind
cutting thru the rain

It called him
"Switchblade"

A gangster story huh? I think it is really good. You dare to you your imagination in a way that I think would make me look awkward and that is what makes you a good writer.

awesome 1rst stanza, really caught me like a drunk rat in the headlights!
at first i thought the ending weak, but on second read i decided you wanted to ease up on the reader after the brutal fleshing out toward the end (the quick finishing stanzas.
well worth my time
