THE RAT

Contributed by jyssvw22 on Tuesday, 26th April 2005 @ 10:37:47 PM in AEST
Topic: oops

Contemplating jumping
Come down from that ledge
Save yourself the trouble
This sword is double-edged
You can become humble
Or remain trapped and wedged

--------

A lonely and beaten Rat
Sits alone on in the dark
In the sewers of the city
In tenements homes and public parks
Sleeping on benches made of steal
Dug deep in the trenches
Always taking caution to conceal
The mask he wears, he never reveals
The misfortune he incurred that night
Eating his last crummy meal

A most wanted man
On both sides of the track
Convicted and sentenced
He was never going back
His prison was his hell
And there was no turning back
He’s stolen the darkness from the depleting black
A guilty conscious
Weighed heavily this night
On this cracked paved ledge
He would take his flight
The Rat would sail
And make things right
Bystanders would go pale
At this ghostly sight

A contagious spectacle
In the corner of his eye
The Rat became susceptible
He saw me kneel and cry
Humanity and its compassion
Acrophobic in disguise
Clarity and passion
Sympathetic minds realized
The jumper never jumped
The Rat lives deep inside
The writer never gives up
The Rat still searching for his pride

WOW.

Quite the emotional out-pouring...You've come a long way in the past few months jyss. Writing through your dark times clearly worked for you---I'm glad.
I do love that determination and strong will that I can always feel in your words. This is a very darkly sad, but honest write. Good job.

*Who would like to point out that rat's are highly intelligent, affectionate, and...cunning ; ) *
Scorp.
