Ungrateful Devotion

Topic: dedicatedpoems

This one is for the mothers
Because it happens that one day
I heard a girl just doggin
her mother like, "Hey,
She'll never know I talked
about her like this"
But it made me sick
Callin he mother all kinda
***** and *****
and it was cold
Complainin because her brother
had a better phone
I don't have a phone
But I'd prefer
not to
because if it means disrespectin
my mother like that
I can live without one
And I'm not callin myself "miss-goody-too-shoes"
My brother and sister and I
came in twos
the last two were the worst of the few
cuz we were terrible and we knew
All kids have that instinct
to do the bad first
and not think
Seriously not think about what they've done
for us
That they clothed and feed us
That they protect and provide for us
Forgive us when we do dumb things
It's become a habit
and habits are hard to break
It's just a way to deal with anger
It's the easiest habit to make
but this is a habit I'm trying hard to break
I don't want the little ones to think it's okay
because it's not
I appreciate my mother
and my behavior has to start being a
reflection of that love for her
Because my love for her
is why I'm trying to change for the better
When I get out in the world
I reflect what kind of woman my mother is
and what kind of woman I want to be
Because I want to be like her
like she is like me

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
