Don't say I didn't warn you

Topic: toughstuff

Note: Never wrote a poem with a disclaimer before, but this one needs one. No offense or minimizing of the problems growing up in teen years is intended. This poem just identifies that it doesn't always get better when you move out of the teenage years.

To all of you teens
who claim your lives really suck
Well, when you turn eighteen
take cover and duck

Life will owe you nothing
I know, have been there
The world's brutally hard
So be smart and prepare

You must go to college
and get that degree
Lest you fall flat on your butt
and end up like me

You can ignore this
and strike out on your own
But you may just strike out
Which is tough when alone

So build a support team
and connect with others
Find some to trust
virtual sisters and brothers

If you've got no career
and just have a job
You'll get no respect
just treated like a slob

Don't think ability alone
and ambition to go
Will get you so far
it's about who you know

Well if you have talent
it might be your out
But if you fall short
Of my advice I've no doubt
