A life I knew

I once knew a life of happiness
And joy, a time I thought was endless
A simple laugh and childish smile
Is no longer part of this new lifestyle
Swinging high, away from the ground
The feeling of freedom, long since drowned
In sorrow, hate and many tears
Tokens of these hardened years
Days when waking up was a joy
And Life was happiness’s envoy
Now I wake up in a darkened room
And am smothered in impending doom
Even the rain did not make me sad
Now, sun or rain, each day is bad
In those years I was part of the light
Now the darkness is beyond twilight
I once knew a life, so good and kind
Where sadness was almost impossible to find
My memories are now in black and white
From another person’s life.
