I am the ripples in the cold. dark water,
the widening rings from a pebble thrown …
the beach, on which the surf is pounding,
a sail that fills, once the wind has blown.
I’m the sound that carries on the water
when the night is chilled … and the heavens clear,
when the moonbeams dance on the glistening surface
only to fade as the day grows near.
I’m a coin exposed by the tides withdrawal,
shining bright for a moment on a distant shore,
once, a piece of a king’s vast treasure,
now, reclaimed by the sea … and, I'm lost once more.
I’m a dream-weaver living out the great adventure
in which I span the earth, with its oceans deep …
on my one-man raft … or, my sailing ship,
as I follow the wind in my world of sleep.
If I never awake … let the dream continue.
May I travel every path that beckons me.
Let me stand atop all the highest mountains;
see the whole wide world … and sail every sea.
Once I’ve seen this planet … in all its splendor
and done everything … (for better or worse),
I’ll be ready to move on to my next adventure,
where I’ll visit each star in the universe.

Oh John!~ On this superp piece of poetry there is so much to say.
St. Augustin has dwelled extnsively on the subject. in his chapter on Time and consciosness. You broach the subject with so much love and trust that I could cry tears.
Oh yes, our planet and every momement of it and ourselves as little gears,is nothing - what we can imagine with our limited faculties - is so little, oh so very limited, .
But your poem is a veritable harbinger filled with the hope and trust of things to come we cannot fathom.on our present level of existence.
It is difficult to do justice to this work -a work of such import and majesty that taxes the mind so much.
Perhaps I can do better commenting on this after re-readinga chapter of St. Augustine.
Superb John!
Thanks for composing and posting.

Excellent write, John. Straight through a strong piece but somehow most powerful in the first three stanzas and the conclusion.
Ah yes... I'll be back to your page again - for there are treasures to be found here.
