We make a city what it is

Like a sculpture from a block of clay,
We make a city what it is.
From iron and stone, and wood and hay,
From steel and copper, and tar and concrete,
We build towers where there was only space.
Like a god raising mountains from land,
We make a city what it is.
On mountains and plains,
By forests and rivers,
We erect monuments where there was once only mud.
From people too,
We make a city what it is.
Coming together,
Forming common bonds,
They build houses where there were only trees.
Like travelers settling over barren land,
We make a city what it is.
But they, they make it home.
