I CRIED TODAY

I CRIED TODAY

I rarely cry big tears,
But today I cried over "years"
Please do not misunderstand,
I've adjusted to old age's demand.

Yet, in my imperfection,
There are times when I cry,
Pure frustration, humiliation.
Strengths of youth have passed me by.

Change the vacuum belt.....
A simple chore, weakness dealt.
Exasperated, weakness overcome.....
I'm no longer strong enough is my problem.

I sat at the base of my bed............
I lowered my tired arms, tears shed.
Questioning, "Why should I care?"
My vulnerability is aware!

In youth I was so strong physically
Very independent, very worthy.
Am I any less worthy on this day?
Of course not, I'll find a way.

However, I must surrender my pride.
To be humble, must be applied.
Am I up to the task?
Relentlessly, for 'help' I must ask!!!

Growing older brings much change.
Attitudes, emotions, feelings rearrange.
Must be very courageous to grow old.
Forgive me please for being so bold!

To keep the heart unwrinkled, to be hopeful, kindly,
cheerful, reverent - that is the triumph over old age.

Connie..you are no less worthy now than you were at 20.... more so, I'd say.... Sure...you may not have the physical strength you once had, but my dear sweet lady, you are a woman of great strength, courage and worth..and never ever forget that....
Hugs
Jenni

I can say no more than those who have come before ...
The poem is beautifully crafted ... and true strength is measured by the spirit of the individual ... not their prowess ... I would say you are one of the strongest women I know.

As far as the unwrinkled heart ... Southern Comfort and a shot of Jolt Cola will see to that ... and if not, three more and what will it matter ? LOL
