As the morning sun is at its peak
she leaves her hungry young behind
With power behind every stroke
she glides across the luscious colors of the meadow
as if propelled by some mysterious force
As her powerful eyes scope the area
she finds her soon-to-be prey
Then like a bullet she dives and with her powerful talons
she grabs and clasps deep into her victim
With every hopeless attempt to escape
she grabs tighter and then with one last haunting cry
the breath leaves its soon-to-be devoured body
Carrying the lifeless body
she effortlessly climbs higher into the beautiful vast blue sky
As she returns to her nest, she tears strips of ragged flesh
feeding her young one by one
and-as if candy to us they eat it chirping for more
full, they nestle closely to their mother
for the warmth she gives is soothing
and slowly they fall asleep.
