Glass

Contributed by blue_angel on Thursday, 21st April 2005 @ 08:18:11 PM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

In my hand I hold a glass
With the power to shatter it away
A glass which I see as half empty
Slowly dripping more each day
There is no way to fill it
It’s been punctured with holes
So the life slips right through
Emptying my desolate soul
To hold my life in my hands
Shall it slip through my fingers?
I dangle the delicate thing
At the tips it doth linger
Stalling the inevitable
I feel the glass begin to break
The ragged shards cut me open
Letting go was my mistake
Now here I lie broken
Shattered like glass on the floor
Each piece preserves a part of me
That doesn’t exist anymore

you will not shatter, i aplaud your writting but you will not break, you are far too strong and no matter what you think, you will not watch it all slip through, you will make it through if ur friends (us) have to drag you back fromt the pits of hell

This imagery is so effective, both in comparing your life to the glass's ability to hold water and to symbolize your life as the glass, which you have the power to control. I'm thinking about what in the poem I want to identify, but it is difficult as it is consistently powerful yet concise --- although the last 4 lines convey such a heartwrenching message. This is one of your best writes...

For content, well, spazz911 said it so truely. We understand how you feel (because your poetry conveys that so vividly) and recognize your strength and that we will do what we can to keep you with us.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
