I’m sorry
(No I’m not)

It’s just not working out
(I don’t feel like putting in the effort)

We were such good friends
(Now everything about you annoys me)

I thought we were ready for the next step
(Was that ever a mistake)

But things were better when we were just friends
(Hopefully this makes you think this wasn’t your fault)

Even Though It Is
(And that’s why we can never be together)

You havwe expressed the thoughts of many very precisely and dragged the dilemma to the fore. But friendship is a fine thig by itself, - and it is perhaps ;not even necessary to take a next step. True love will put up with the shortcomings of the frind or the beloved person.
