for one.

black night falls around like snow
i walk: stumbling, groping,
longing to see in a blind world.
a flash illuminates the shadows
and catches my eye;
a sweet will ‘o the wisp, you are
voice that darts and dances and dares
a muse, a “wished-for-song”,
“all phantom elusive thing”;
you flicker and flit
like light thrown from a flame;
i chase, and try to catch a glimmer,
to treasure within my hand
but find only fallen embers;
the gifts you’ve left behind.
i tuck a cinder safe inside
feel it smolder, taste the warmth
somewhere everywhere
in others I can see
kindred candles, morning bright
and in their glow I remember; how
your silhouette
lights the dark
