States of Confusion

A kinder, gentler America
has third world issues
in first person context
seconded by four out of five homeless faces
occupying numerous unnumbered street corners
Within her concrete jungles
the law of lawlessness prevails
perpetuated by those of paper power
who are blinded by the truth
and expect the poets not to see
Political parties have been crashed
Communist convoys drove through their gates
transporting black market air bags
stolen from mass produced ideals
financed by common cents
The church is in a state of shock
the State believes in God
yet disavows its own right to do so
through lethargic legislation
Does God still believe in them?
Public schools clamor for money
money, that also says “In God We Trust”
standardized testing stupefies
while funding for the arts is fornicated
and further mention of faith is forbidden
Denial always denotes a problem
differentiate the problem as belief
believe that all things can change
then deny that they will ever need to
If things were different, would they still be the same?

Tough question and tougher statements.
You address a viewpoint that I'm not sure I could even present with any clarity. I admire your ability here!
To answer the question...No, they would be diffrent.....now let me pose a question to you...would they be better? |

Well now... here is most certainly something!
I particularly like the first two stanzas. I could spend a couple hours discussing just those two, I think. If you had already pulled me in... you most certainly would have with the concluding line of the second stanza. My, yes.
Thought provoking, indeed. And... frankly, frustrating. Fortunately... there are things like sunsets and thunderstorms and children's laughter and... poetry -- that can instaneoously convert one's thoughts to thinking that the world is indeed a wonderful place.
Wishing you little frustration and much wonder,
Snem

I agree Naz. That something that our money says is missing and is what causes the problem.
Thankfully we also have a faith that says He will reign and fix it all up one day. |

Dear Naz,
BINGO.........BRAVO! BRAVO!BRAVO!
You're one poet noticed!!!Fantastic write!!!!!!!
I always learn so much from you Naz, and when you compliment my poetry, I feel so bless, which by the way is another poem.
Have you noticed how very few people have true feelings anymore.....I mean such as crying, Did you know Naz that the majority of people in our society today think it's not the right thing to do........CRY!!!! Another encouraging thing to assist us in thinking we shouldn't FEEL our feelings today!
I loved your comment about religions today.
"The love the greater number have cooled off!" My Naz, we poets must keep our balance, our truthful perspective........feel, feel, feel.....and then let the whole world know, that it is all right...........after Jesus cried!
Warm Poetic Love, with lots of feelings

I've just read this for the third time,
and to be honest I am in awe.
This is such a marvelous thought provoking piece
and paints a vivid picture of the issues in the U.S today. |

Naz,
You have a way of being very clever; and in addition, truely profound. Your use of the numbers and play on words is masterful.
Ah yes, the spiritual paradox.....
Very thought provoking with your last phrase. Different certainly is not necessarily better....but it could be...
Super write, Naz
Will, Terry

Belief and denial. Two very important words. It seems each generation leaves behind new problems to solve in addition to the problems that came before. The solutions come, but much more slowly than the increase in problems. No wonder we're overwhelmed!
A good and thoughtful write. |
