A spider swings upon its gallow
above the waters shallow
All day it spins its delicate web of grace
and then soon takes its place
He waits until the screen of dusk to fall
A shake! that's his call
With legs four and four he crawls toward
He sees a moth, then moves foward
Approaching him he asks "How are you?"
Masked in silk the moth responds"Go on do what you have to do"
The spider asks" What would that be?"
The moth cries"You know to eat me"
"I've not planned for you my meal"
The moth questions " Then why the web? Aren't you made to kill?"
No I’m just lonely he says,” I needed a friend”
The moth at ease says “ Than your search is at an end"
I see says the spider, but your in need to go
“I’ll stay a while, I need not go”
The spider smiles and sets him free
The moth remains in the silk where he’s meant to be
This new friendship will last forever
The moth says “The web very clever”
“But I didn’t fly into your web prepared to die”
“I needed a friend and you caught my eye”
