You thought you’d never see the day,
That you would have a grandson.
But God saw fit to add joy to your life,
And I’m glad that I’m the one.
Mischief may sparkle and shine in my eyes.
My dimples play peek-a-boo.
And from all the stories that people tell,
My orneriness must come from you.
From your “mawnmower” and “bathoe”
To your hammers and your saws,
I try my best to do like you
For you’re the best “Damp-pa” of all.
I know you love me,
And I love you, too.
Yet the thing I love most of all
Is sharing my name with you!
