Have you ever...

Contributed by unbreakable on Monday, 18th April 2005 @ 03:26:01 PM in AEST
Topic: spiritual

Have you ever felt
like this is all a dream,
and our yesterdays and todays
are not as real as they seem?

You made her mad again
that's why she threw you down the stairs
but you know the saddest part
is that no one even cares

Did you know in just a minute
you could shut it out,
just close your eyes and clear your mind
forget what life's about?

He tore your innocence away
you were too young to realize
now you lie awake ashamed,
you sob through thick and soggy eyes

Have you ever gone to sleep
with the faintest trace,
of a hope that when you woke up
you'd be in a better place?

Another fifty dollars gone
from your bottom drawer
to pay off his latest high
and you know he'll be back for more

Haven't you wanted to escape,
counted one to ten,
pretended you were someone else
just to live it all again?

this feeling is impossible
to explain or try to write
like you know for just a second
that everything will be alright

in that moment time just freezes
and there's no reason to care
because none of this is real
it's not actually there

I've been told it's wishful thinking
logically your mind lets go
if only for that moment
the things it wished it didn't know

sometimes I think it's more than that
a break from all the wear and tear
a glimps of true heaven maybe
or perhaps an answered prayer

it almost sounds like the second stanza speaks from a male perspective while the rest of the poem is a female's perspective. but that is such a small thing and does not take away from the overall affect of the poem at all. i really enjoyed everything about this piece.
