The Way

Topic: Lifepoems

Fly away from your hopes and dreams,
Far from this land of make believe,
To a place where even the air makes you high,
A place to live, to work and to die,
Out on your own nothing to break your fall,
Have to pay rent, tax, rent tax, thats not all.
Your dreams kept you going through years of education,
Your dreams were the best form of self motivation,
Now the time to leave is here, nothing can stop you,
Not your parents, your teachers,
The man up the street who looked at you as if to say,
You're still a little kid you'll never survive,
Well screw you, I'll do more than that I'll thrive.

Away from your shadow in the light I'll grow
Into much more than you ever thought I could,
Yeah I know that I'll live, work and eventually die,
But you can't stop me from breathing the air and getting high,
I'm not all alone, I'm far from lonely
And its not all I've got.

Those childish friends you used to see,
Have flourished away from the shadow like me,
Grown into much more than after-school friends,
Into people on whom I rely and depend.

They share this life of independence,
Of rock and fun and self dependence,
We're going to succeed, we're going to survive,
and more than that we're going to thrive.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
