Anniversary

Contributed by dragonluvsong on Friday, 15th April 2005 @ 03:36:46 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

Today is the anniversary of my suffering.
Today is a day to celebrate, because today I exist.
It is another day I am condemned to life,
A day when I endure the tragedies that come with wakefulness.

Every beat of your heart promises more aggravation.
Every step you take gives you more grief.
When you blink, you are sworn to more future heartache.
And every breath guarantees more pain in your life.

Only through sleep can anyone hide.
Only through shut eyes can you escape the disaster that is your destiny.
Maybe a coma could be better, you are closer to nonexistence.
In a coma, you can’t move, you might as well be laying in the coffin.

At least, in any deep sleep, you can dream.
You dream of something other than your life.
You dream of something new that could be in your life.
You dream of what you want, which is never what you experience.

Disappointment clogs your arteries when your heart fights to beat.
Self deprecation haunts your steps as you run from the past towards a bleak future.
Dissatisfaction fills your wakeful hours.
Unhappiness clouds your lungs as you breathe your poison.

Steps are unsure, heart beats uneven, and breath is emaciated.
When you are born you are condemned to death.
To exist, try to limit the pain, and wait for the kiss of the Grim Reaper.
Maybe you should be lying in the coffin, right now, why not be prepared?

I think you need to learn to smile! Is your life that bad?

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
