Thanks to a Fire Fighter

Contributed by FireStorm12 on Monday, 23rd December 2002 @ 01:40:00 AM in AEST
Topic: Tributes

A cry for help,
Goes down the line.
The phone is answered,
By a voice that’s divine.

A life is hanging,
By a single thread.
It’s trapped by a fire,
That’s fierce and red.

The tones are dropped,
The siren’s scream.
Into the fire house,
The volunteer’s stream.

They don their gear,
Rushing to get ready.
They roll out the door,
It’s been 5 minutes already.

They roll down the street,
As the sirens roar.
Men and women who fight fire,
Are brave to the core.

They pull up in front,
Of a house that’s ablaze.
Some think they are crazy,
Yet there is no delay.

They hope and they prey,
That they are in time.
It’s through the fire,
And up the stairs they climb.

To rescue a mother,
Who is trapped inside.
They find her on the floor,
Before she had died.

They pick her up,
And out the window they go.
Out on the ladder,
To the ground below.

The fire is now out,
A life has been protected.
The men and women who serve,
Should always be respected.

Now see this is a beautiful poem right here and i agree firefighters it seems to me are so unappreciated by so many people and that's sad because they are the ones who fight those fires and go out and save the lives of people, i think firefighters should be better recognized than what they are ...and your wife is right i think you should have your own book published, i really honestly do, i would buy it. I love the way you make your poetry flow so nicely with your wording and it seems as though most of what i've read so far, no ALL of what i've read so far has been straight from your heart and your life... i really enjoy reading your poetry ...don't ever let anyone tell you any differently, because my friend your talent shines through deeply...

My husband is a firefighter so I know your poem is very special. May I say, that it is so true, not everyone appreciates what firemen do, as I know in the town I live in. The mayor hates our firedept and all the people who serve, don't know why, but good will prevail. For all the firefighters, thank you.
