Contradiction

What soars up,
Must plummet down.
With every positive,
A negative lurks close behind.
As karma attempts,
To lead itself around,
A tiger guards the locked door.

Why is it,
The Negative seems to attract more attention,
And absorb the most energy?
They say death is never far away,
But why is it never mentioned,
That life is in the present,
With you,
As you view my penned words.

Images of violence,
Are scarred into our youth,
Whether it be word of mouth,
Or the newscast.
Why is it we laugh,
At children’s shows,
When in reality,
They are the only artistic outlet,
Safe for all,
Old and young to watch.

Why is it,
A single black and white sticker,
Can push album sales higher?
Why is it,
Restricted theatrical viewings,
Are always “the coolest” to sneak into,
On a Friday night?

What is this rush,
Those who steal speak of?
And how can a drug,
Help you through misery?

Children giggle and laugh,
If you whisper an obscene joke,
Even if they know not the meaning.
While when the toddlers grow old,
And repeat the jokes again,
They really haven't grown,
For the joke still strikes Them funny.

Do you receive the same amount of attention,
When you're happy than you did when you were sad?
Do you retrieve any at all?

Will this piece of artwork,
Receive recognition,
Because it has crossed,
A controversial,
Political boundary line?
Or will it be shoved away,
Because society enjoys not knowing,
What it's secretly known all along.

Poetry is much like a great photo, a single "moment in time" capturing many feelings and emotions. Yet, they are very alive; creating stirrings within the readers who form visual "pictures" of the expressed emotions within the Poem. ©
