Once There Was A Tavern Yellow

Contributed by Cupid on Wednesday, 13th April 2005 @ 03:59:07 PM in AEST
Topic: fantasy

Once there was a tavern yellow
In a bright green vale
The keeper was a nice old fellow
And he served beer and ale

He served all people in the town
Elves and halflings too
Everyone loved to go down
To drink a pint or two

Once a king came in and said
'Give us your finest drink
My courtiers may soon be dead'
Of this did keeper think

But he gave them his best brew
And watched them drink their fill
A visit from a king was new
To keeper ‘twas a thrill

The king was content with the liquor he’d had
And he swore to come again
Even if the weather be bad
He would go inside the rain

Although the king was pleased
He said he wouldn’t pay
At least he couldn’t be appeased
Until the very next day

The king and his courtiers stayed up late
Dancing dance and singing song
They all stayed up till morning at eight
The whole night, it had been long

The king and company were asleep
By the time the cock crowed ten
They’d all toppled into a heap
Long before they woke again

The keeper roused the king from nap
So that his company could leave
He didn’t want to wake the chap
But tugged anyway at his sleeve

King awoke and yelled aloud
That he had been tricked
That with drink he’d been endowed
And with that, out he was kicked

The keeper took the king’s money
And stored it his purse
The scene before seemed a bit funny
Until he heard king curse

The keeper cleaned the tavern yellow
That rested in the green vale
He was still a nice old fellow
Who served beer and ale
