Flying high over the bustling city,
lights flash, cars crawl, another normal night.
The light pollution almost looks pretty,
and on high a girl looks like she's trying to take flight.
At the utmost corner of a skyscrapper she stands,
her hair gently sailing behind her,
with her eyes shut she breathes and raises her hands.
She prays that no one will find her.
Her life was a mixture of interesting events, looking back.
Born a twin, they played piano and cheated in tests at school.
She was like the white keys and her sister black,
both cute, clever, funny and cool.
Her poor sister was hit by a car
while they were in their early teens.
She had hoped to become a cop so far,
so her sister followed her dreams.
She met a man while off duty,
whom she'd mistaken for a theif.
He was instantly taken by her beauty,
they released him, to his relief.
They went on a trip together,
they faced dangers and joys.
They had conversations about the weather.
He said the wind was like a voice.
"I want to be the wind" he said.
"When I'm gone and you feel it
it will be me caressing your head.
I'll whisper softly 'I love you' and mean it."
She stilled played piano but without the black keys
for respect of her sister who'd not played white.
He'd painted the keys all white so she was freed
but she had not discovered until this night.
One night she was on patrol chasing a bad guy.
He'd been waiting for her to come around.
He called her, offered his help, not knowing he would die.
When he came out he was shot and she found him on the ground.
She wept for him, slowly went mad,
thought she saw him everywhere.
Tried to end it cos the pain was so bad,
ended up in intensive care.
She wandered alone, thinking of his words
sure that the wind was speaking.
She decided she wished to be with birds
and rejoin the man she was seeking.
So she came to the roof of this tall tower,
on this cold city night that we meet her.
She's about to jump, her darkest hour,
when some kids offer her some pizza.
"Come down from there and eat with us,
or at least give us your money.
If your going to jump anyway you should give us
what would otherwise go to the dunny!"
She is talked down, eats with them,
wanders around all alone.
She heads down to the train station
and meets a new man on her way home.
