Through Your Eyes

war

You walk by
Your strong back now
Hunched and weathered with time
Your neatly cropped hair
Now grey and balding
Your eyes, though
Hold many stories
Of a time so horrible
And of a war so scary
You only tell when the time is right
Though your hearing isn't as it was
The sounds still echo in your ears
Bombs and guns and plans
The nightmares of the past
Never once yet faded
The scars never heal
The pain is never truly gone
Through your eyes we learn that
