The News is out; - the people are in shock;
“It’s a mistake for sure,- it cannot be!”,
But then against the media run amok
That just announced the news on Princess Dee.
Clerks stop their work, and many an employee,
Truck drivers sob, engaging the wrong gear,
Stunned by the news concerning Princess Dee,
Reach for their handkerchief to dab a tear.
Oh little flowerlets in lowly beds!
Oh lilies in soft gleaming sheen and gloss!
And all that blooms and blossoms, bow your heads,
And mourn, lament the brightest rose’s loss!
Princess! send down a beam of light on those
That deeply drank from your bright-sparkling eyes,
And call you lovingly “Sweet English Rose”,
And bid their tunes for you to heaven rise.
Pray, let your symbol,- let compassion be,
Your precious gift to water arid tracts;
Compassion, virtues’ crown, be your sweet legacy,
And let her waters swell to cataracts.
Speed down from up above a tender kiss,
And touch your children, struggling to be brave;
Remain a power to be reckoned with
Beyond the realm of your land and grave.
September 1997
Your Ghost is haunting now the palaces
of Windsor, calling forth or sweetness, mixed with fear,
I cannot tell, most beautiful of princesses
Except the people hold their People’s Princess dear.

wow this is a masterpeice and fine tribute especially now that her ex had married his beloved or whatever one chooses to call her.
I luv the pictures etc. when she died I set glued to my t.v. for hours as I couldn't beleive what I was seeing.
it's amazing to me that you've written this as I was thinking about her and writing a tribute.
She was and is still a beautifull, amazing spirit.
luv, huggs, smiles,

I have to confess that I was a fan of the Princess and indeed I was quite taken by her beauty as well as her poise and charitable works... in a way she embodied all that a Royal or indeed any famous personality should imbue for instead of being besotten with her elevated stature she used her fame and composure as responsibly as she could...I remember clearly the day I got the news of her death,...I was in Florida then studying at the university of Miamia. I got homefrom class that day to be greeted by the horrible news....and indeed I was stunned and shut down for a bit...just the shock of the moment I guess...anyway...this poem is a great tribute to her and captures rather well both the incident as well as her grace in life. Nice write! |

A beautiful and graceful Lady of whom I shall remember as one who was the right choice, for the wrong man, at the worst possible time. A beloved of the masses, and a thorn in the side of the elite, Aristocratic kin of her wimpy (and sorry excuse of a) husband.
She was the House of Windsor’s greatest, and only, light in a sea of London fog. Decried in the Palaces . . . but, much loved by the common Brit.
Your poem is a pleasure to read. Thank you .
John
