February Inamorata

Contributed by NewsFromNowhere on Sunday, 10th April 2005 @ 11:33:51 PM in AEST
Topic: LostLove

If I was starlight maybe I could touch you.
If my dreams were Venus then you may cherish them.
If the trees whispered your name and the flowers caressed you,
Your universe would be won, and mine to look upon.

I don’t pray for eternity, only your reverie.
A place in your thoughts, or a thorn of your regret,
I could be tonight or I could be forever.
I will fade with the dawn if you wish.

Words are empty and without veins. They do not pump blood.
They are not real, merely invisible silks.
If this love were of substance, something that bleeds,
It would be easier to see and easier to feel.

Black holes dilate, clutching at this valentine amaranthine.
In you ends my existence, every jagged breath.
But behind your eyes he kneels at your grave.
When we touch, you touch not me but a memory.

Together we are leprosy, out empathy hollow nothing.
Kisses linger like the black summer sunset.
As we lie, separated by dusk, miles away
Everything falls apart, in your lips everything dies.

In desolate July I ache wine and tender lines. Like the first time.
You my caesarean birth, my future aborted through desire.
Somewhere in sleep shakes Utopian states.
But I wake to ice baths and salt on my face.

If we could walk, just once, hand in hand.
Somewhere at night, somewhere immortal,
I could live in that moment forever. Postpone the afterglow.
For in the infinite light of the cosmos, time can’t touch us.
