Voices

Contributed by FleurdeSang on Sunday, 10th April 2005 @ 04:49:59 PM in AEST
Topic: DarkPoetry

I awake to find that we are not free,
Slaves to reality,
Puppets to the media,
Whores to hate,
Ripped open, bled out till there’s nothing left,
Except the resonating melody of emptiness…

I feel it taking over,
The voices grow louder,
Endless repetition,
The same damn song they always shriek…
“You are nothing… Succumb to us… Kill for us again…”

So many have died,
Bt the touch of these tainted hands,
And how can anyone understand,
The complexity and madness,
Of an insane mind?
The mindless litany of a silent poet?

Live a life of feigned happiness,
Fake a smile for the camera,
Show your tears to no one…
Tell yourself everything is alright,
Pretend you have friends,
Even if you cannot see them…

Caught in the corners of my mind,
Darkness dwells, taking all that is mine,
The last of my blissful memories,
Leaving only thoughts of death…
The demons smell my fear,
I know I will lose this time…

Slowly eating my sanity away,
The true beast within will surface,
And all shall perish…

Do not ignore The Voices within,
For they are the voices of Reason,
And they will get their way…

Do not avert your gaze from what is in front of you,
For in your nightmares,
I am all that will haunt you…

Do not fear the darkness,
For in death,
That is all there is…

"Ripped open, bled out till there’s nothing left,

This whole poem was just so damn good,
but those two lines in particular really stood
out to me. Yeah you continually astound me
with the depth of your poetry never stop
writing because that would be tragic.

Just the title had me clicking to read, which I'm glad I did. These words show great depth of the lingering voices we have all probably heard at some point in our life. This was exceptionally penned and an awesome read. I could relate to every last word. Thanks for sharing this.~joni~

A really dark poem that I marked to comment on. I find it a slightly cynical write, and if that's what you meant to portray you did a good job of it. We all have these given personas in us and I'd guess that the ones we give a voice to at any certain moment is sometimes a choice process and sometimes not. *hugs* J.
