My father considered it a sin,
To associate with those of a lower class in society
But my father couldn’t stop me from
Continuously committing this sin of his
On my behalf, I would not follow it
I lived under the heavy, iron fist of my father or the king
My mother being so weak and scared of him,
She did nothing to help me
Even though my father knew, he had the decency of
Letting me stay in the castle, at least for the time being
The man who I loved, him name was Sterling
No person alive was ever like him
He lived alone, in the filthiest part of the kingdom
But no matter what happened, he made the best of it
Having lost his parents at a young age
Sterling learned to live after tragedy
I don’t know how, but destiny had tempted me,
With its seductive aura and fate was playing along
In the Raven Hall is where I first saw him
It wasn’t really love at first site,
More of, love at first hit
Sterling was telling a story made of gypsies
Using all the proper hand gestures
And flailing around a mug of ale
I was dressed down of course, so no one would recognize me
But Sterling knew, I know he did
As I walked by him, he hit me with his mug
As I awoke, I saw worried faces around me
My head was pounding with an awful pain
Someone then reached their hand and pulled me up
Oh dear, I’m terrible sorry, your highness!!
Gasps were heard, dotting the crowd
He said your highness on purpose
It was an elaborate excuse to get me outside
From the praise and begging of those inside
He took me far enough away, to the Garden Of Airrahe
This was where he worked, watering and diligently planting
So he had the special key you needed to enter the garden
The keys were only given to workers and the noble families
Sterling had my hand for quite a while,
Till he stopped at the bushes of roses
I know the princess adores roses he mused
And he picked one, risking cuts from thorns,
He handed it to me, like a person presents a ring
From the time he gave me that glistening rose
My heart had fluttered like the wings of a butterfly
The moment, was absolute bliss,
My father had swiftly came to mind,
And that bliss was momentarily crushed
I had to overcome him for the matter of my heart
That very next morning, the king had learned about
My little escapade in the less-fortunate part of the kingdom
His fist slammed on the breakfast table
And his face flared as red as a ripe apple
He awoke the greatest fear in me and now
The king was tired of this, he had enough
A disgrace to the Royal Norwood family I was, and banished forever
My bag was filled to the brim with clothing,
He kept all the rest of my possessions
I took one final look at Norwood Castle
This had been my home ever since the day of my birth
Now I was forced to leave, banished by my father
Salty tears began to rim my eyes,
And I walked away from my old home

More like prose or short story, yet, the style and language much appeals to me.
A rather imagery filled piece, fantasy yet historical in many aspects.
I very much like the significance within your similes and metaphors...and what a fair picture they paint on the canvas that is my mind.
The character development, although brief, is quite rich and textured, enough to fall in love with...
A beautiful piece... |
