Numb

Contributed by juliette on Saturday, 9th April 2005 @ 12:01:27 AM in AEST
Topic: EmotionalPoetry

My mind is working double, boasting overtime,
Visions tracing scars, through the lines of my life.
The harder it gets to remember to breathe
The farther I sink into this valley of dreams.
Drowning in tears that forgot to fall
I could take you back there and relive it all.
Only now I am not strong enough to travel alone,
With someone real by my side, maybe I can get where I’m going.

Eyes open in the dark, gazing back at tonight
My precious mistakes once again taking flight.
But they hover above instead of lagging behind
Until years of heartache are waiting patiently in line.
I want to stand tall but I can’t feel my knees,
I would beg your forgiveness but you won’t hear my pleas,
Before I suffer for every ounce of this pain,
Prove myself worthy of loving you once again.

I become overwhelmed as places unseen shutdown,
I couldn’t be what you need even if you came around.
Damned with eternal shadows looming above
I never learned what to do, with this being in love.
I press through barely out of cowardly spite
Wake up every morning thinking maybe this might
Be the day, I find you frozen here by my side,
Laying your broken heart down next to mine.
