I Can See

Contributed by JacobsKK on Thursday, 7th April 2005 @ 09:14:56 PM in AEST
Topic: happypoetry

If we are still together,
By the time I’m twenty-one.
Still hand in hand until that time,
Still watching setting suns.

And if you still make up my thoughts,
Still the one I’m dreaming of.
I’d take time from each day to make sure,
You know you’re the one I love.

I can picture that aisle,
And I can see you in your suit.
It still feels easy to love you,
I can hear me say, “I Do.”

I can even imagine our house,
With all the pictures in the hall.
Wedding photos glancing back,
From where they hang on the wall.

And if I happen to survive
By the time I’m twenty-three.
I swear that I’d give you a kid,
Even if the birth killed me.

Then, by the age of 30,
When family photos rest in their frames.
I’d still have ways of proving,
That I love you just the same.

I can see the intimate moments,
As if they are already here.
I can feel me missing you,
Whenever you can’t be near.

I can even hear me screaming,
As the petty fights have grown.
But a relationship is healthy,
When a few vases are thrown.

Then the making up will come,
Something it’ll always do.
Even then, at thirty five,
I will still love you.

Then when our kid graduates,
By the time I’m forty-one.
He might move away, but we’ll
Still have our setting suns.

I’m fifteen, but I can see all of this,
It’s something so easy to do.
But I don’t think it’ll ever be,
As easy as loving you.
