The Early Worm Always Gets Devoured

Whispering sensations
Full throttle ahead
Reserved hesitation
Lovers in their separate beds
Curious fingers
Your perfume lingers
Obsessive reminders
Of a lost time far behind us
Pondering our options
I’ve bowed gracefully out
Muted to closed captions
I’ve opted for the peaceful route
The early worm
Always gets devoured
The late bird starves
And dies a coward
A parallel thought
Transcends this demise
You’ve been caught
In a web of your own lies
The spider soon returns
To the web he once wove
Demolishing all you strove-
To build, this city of gold
Your passion dissipates
All has gone wrong
All you anticipate
Is now forlorn
Summon a spell
From your book of magic
Perhaps this lonely hell
Won’t stay so tragic
