My Last Confession

Take a piece of me
Leave the rest behind
In bad times and worse
I’ll need my heart to stay afloat
Consider this my resignation
And pardon the hesitation
I was once cowardly
Now, I yield to my convictions
Don’t be deceived
I have yet to loose faith
I am sent to retrieve
What humanity has misplaced
The brave soldiers that beckon
A hero to reckon
With the forces of oppression
And act firm, make no concessions!
And as they beat me
For my scripted confession
And burn my skin
To a freighting complexion
I trust that innocence
Runs rampant in the streets below
I pray for my lost hero
Who lurks afraid in the shadow
