The Nightmare Before College

Contributed by dolly_dagger on Friday, 1st April 2005 @ 06:47:20 PM in AEST
Topic: Lifepoems

where am i?
Crazy Bird?
Posh Bird?
No-one's Bird?
Everyone's Bird?
Bird's Bird?
who am i here?

whisked through broken doors on the current of my peers' energy
what's my role?
spot my reflection
unknown, unrecognised
but i'm here
ready to make a mark
i'm not sure that my style is
right for this place, though

your
smiles and sneers
polos and paper aeroplanes
target me

aiming is fine
but touch me, you die
because i'm not ready yet

i don't know who i am here
swimming through groups

dyed hair and lip piercings. they're
The Nightmares Before Christmas...
and they continue to be
The Nightmares Before Easter, Summer...
New week
New hole
New bruise

or there's the Drama Queens
flouncing and shrieking
not sure i could do that full-time

need some time to think

then why not tread water with the Thinkers
and the non-Thinkers - viewed the same
except by each other

hippies.and.tarts.and.goths.and.chavs.and.skaters.and.gamers.and.emos.and.losers.and.jocks.and.trendies.and.on.and.on.and.on
on.and.on they all circulate
and i watch until i'm sucked into one
dragged over to another
glance and fake a smile towards another
glance and truly smile towards another
whilst wondering where the hell i am in this place

hoping that i learn it before i leave it

the rite of passage crumbles behind me
with every step i take
and i can't even bag it to examine

is anyone actually Feeling here?
are you Feeling this?
Too concerned with your playing cards.and.handbags.and.cigarettes.and.junk.food.and.iPods.
to know what you're like

or what i'm thinking about you when i look at you in that way

how long is it going to take for you to
wake.up.look.back.catch.up

with me
your world

..c'mon! it might be a 'laugh'

I must say I thoroughly enjoyed that!! That was really really good,
such a truth in all our lives, that we have to find where we fit, I know
that I've done the same thing here in high school and likely will do the
same again once I get to university in the fall. I hope you find your
place... whether it is in 4 differnet groups at the same time as it seems
that I fit in. This was such a creative interesting piece. I loved it!

crazy writing and great words. i really enjoyed it. and i think maybe i can relate...as i am heading off to university soon after some time off...i thought i had it all figured out but i'm beginning to seriously question my place. but i guess when we leave our comfort zone behind we are bound to question ourselves.

I love the way you have constructed this, and it is great to know I am feeling the same things as you. perhaps that joint poem we once talked of may have to be written! I love this poem very much, noting the capital F on feeling. loving you, missing you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx p.s, thanks for taking the time to read and comment on my poems, appreciated muchly. take care my dear, before the emo's get you..ahhhhhhh!!!

You always manage to pinpoint your feelings in your poems to a 't' and that is why they are all so amazing. I agree with this one.. fiting in, can it ever happen to a free mind? one that hasnt been manipulated into somebody els's, one that can express its own feelings? I just dont no.

Well writen and take care

strange in my 6 form, with the same ppl ive been with for 5 or 12 years, all those barriers hav broken down. these days i talk to any1. no1 seems to be anything anymore, we're just all 6 form and the ppl to take the ***** out of are the lower years. but i conceed, i am quite a sociable person. surely this whole question of identity goes away when u ignore it?
