Your Boy
~~~~
I remember the first time
You told me you were proud of me
Your eyes glazed up
And a tear was plain to see
It was my honor
To bring you such joy
For you were my father
And I, your boy
Through the years
You taught me so many things
Make it clear to my eyes
What the world would bring
Protect me, you did
With all your might
Until the day
Your body lost the fight
Now each Sunday
When I go by your way
I take a few minutes
Just to say
That I’m still here
I’m still your little boy
And now it’s you
Who brings me joy
With these beautiful memories
I hold so dear
And although you’re gone
They keep you near
As I trace your name
On the stone
You were the greatest person
I’ve even known
