Your Only Mistake

The night was so silent; no sound could be heard
Not a bird, not a lark, not a single word
Even the moon had finally gone to sleep
Soon it was time for the sun to quietly creep.
A blanket of dew rested in the air
Warming the forest with its warm flair,
A breeze sinks in but you could feel the warmth
As the trees sung quietly to the dawn.
I stood in the middle; mind in a daze
Not seeing things clearly; everything was a haze,
Just like a withered flower, my heart’s never the same
You left my life just as suddenly as you came.
They say all that glitters is not gold
But to your memory, I will forever hold,
Whether a torpedo strikes or a hurricane blows
To me, your face will always glow.
You left me stranded on a one-way street
Left me all alone in the unbearable heat,
The forest now burns as wildly as fire
Your only mark was your unconditional desire.
You used to say that all things are for the best
But now my heart is never at rest,
Not knowing whether you will ever come back
You’re the only thing my heart does lack.
There’s no difference between night and day
Your name my mouth constantly does say,
You said we’d we together; what went so wrong?
No more dancing and singing all night long.
You said that your departure was for our good
But I can read your disguise hidden under your hood,
Eyes reflected with tears, whirlpools ready to fall
Voices in the dark, I can hear their sweet call.
The past is long behind us; can’t we start over?
Let feelings of joy replace feelings of sober,
But just remember that my heart now has a hole
Because your only mistake took away my very soul.
