Fires of Today

Contributed by waos on Thursday, 31st March 2005 @ 01:04:26 AM in AEST
Topic: dedicatedpoems

Past mistakes like broken windshields and thunder
crack and crash through the canals of my mind.
Misplaced directions end in scrambling alone
to find some sense of clarity inside.

Yesterday is a fire buring away today.
The flames reach higher, stoke the fire.
Hold me above the flames, I pray.
My weak strength tires, I'm lost in desire.

Weakness weighs in heavy handed clouds
that haunt my crying heart.
Fear of failure falls in a downpour
of stones threatening to rip me apart.

Yesterday's fire fades into today.
The flames reach higher, stoke the fire.
Hold me above the flames I pray.
My weak strength tires, hold me higher.

A broken soul sacrifice laid at the foot of your throne,
with only an assurance I'll return again, wordless.
As sure as the tide, the sunrise, and my weakness inside,
is your love, your hope, and your promise.

Yesterday's fire fades to a distant ember today.
Your love lifts me higher, fan your fire.
Lord, take my life, reign in me, I pray.
My weak strength relies in you as you lift me higher.

~For those of us who make mistakes and can't make it on our own anymore and know where our strength lies. And for the one who strengthens us.~

oh that is a very cleaver poem!! took me a few reads to fully grasp it but i do like this piece

also i thought some of the lines used would make a cool song lyric 'Yesterday is a fire buring away today.
The flames reach higher, stoke the fire.
Hold me above the flames, I pray.
My weak strength tires, I'm lost in desire.' thought those lines would sound good sung.

anyway i love themes used and i think this is another brilliant poem by you!

Beautiful Kara I loved this and can relate to it
quite a bit I am continually amazed that no
matter how often we fall God will always be
there to pick us up and offer his forgiveness.
The poem itself was just amazing and I could
really relate to the emotions described in it.
Beautifully and poetically written.

Bobo (Joel)

P.S. Stay strong!

I agree with overstated... I actually scrolled up to see if this was in the Song Lyrics category - it really feels like it belongs there. I hear it... as a song.

it's a beautiful piece. A heartwrenchingly beautiful piece. *sigh*

Well done,
SNM

Yes- as te foregoing commenters said, this is a great song. that comprises all of our high and lows. fires, and let-downs.
But in HIS arms both fires and rains do their work to the Glory of God.
Great write!
Love and peace
Elizabeth
