What you so afraid of
why won't you let me go
are you afraid I will get pregnent
don't worry about that so
I am a lot more responsible then you must think I am
I have a good life now
I don't want to screw it up by having a baby at seventeen
to be truthful my life is only good
it would be great if you just let me go
let me go to make my own decisions
let me have complete freedom
trust me to make my own decisions
you will be surprised to find
that I am not that little girl that needed you at every turn
I am a seventeen year old
trying to push you away
so I can make my own decisions.

nice poem, very strait forward. but did you ever consider the fact that they are just trying to be good parents. perhaps your right and they should lighten up a bit, but you gotta keep in mind that they are probably(and i say probably because i don't know your situation) tryng to keep their little girl(it doesn't matter how old you are, if they are loveing parents then you'll always be their little girl weather your 2, 10, 20, or 80 years old) from getting hurt.and don't be so quick to get away from them. it's nice to be independent but it's a helluva lot tougher than you may think. now when you do something wrong your parents may yell at you a bit but as soon as you break away from them someone(or many someone's) will step up to fill their shoes(ie. bosses, cops, lawyers, bill collecters, land lords, etc.). again i'm not saying that your wrong, maybe they should loosen your chains a bit, but maybe you should try and see things from their point of view. |
